Sokode, Togo News
Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbe and his Beninese counterpart Boni Yayi have inaugurated the Sokode electrical transformer station, situated about 350 km north of Lome.
The project which was launched on Wednesday, is part of the 2011-2020 strategic plan of the Benin Electricity Community (CEB), a company jointly owned by Togo and Benin.
It was constructed at a cost of 11.7 billion CFA Francs (19 million U.S. dollars) acquired from China Eximbank.
The electricity transformer station was constructed by a Chinese firm, TBEA, which is specialized in production and exportation of conductors, cables, electronic gadgets as well as solar energy equipments.
The station will guarantee stability and safety of CEB’s energy transportation network as well as expansion of its operations to the northern parts of Benin and Togo.
The Chinese ambassador to Togo Liu Yuxi said the construction of the station will help to reduce losses during transportation on the network, and added that the Togolese and Beninese governments had given a concrete response to the concerns of their respective citizens in the area of secure electricity supply to the northern regions.
Togolese and Beninese energy ministers hailed the cooperation between China and the two countries, noting that this had resulted into the execution of the project. Enditem
