Togolese Embassy in Accra
In a repeat of the first edition finals, Togo came face to face with the Lebanon Embassy in a high-on-energy final that saw the physically endowed West Africans run away with the trophy after winning 1-0.
It was a painful defeat for the Lebanese. They were the toast of majority of the fans that thronged the Lizzy Sports Complex on Saturday with their dazzling and silky skills. The Togolese, however, relied on their physique and speed and did not allow the Lebanese to play their usual free-flowing game.
It came as little wonder when they (Lebanese) overcame overwhelming favourites, TV 3 Ghana in the semi final with a 3-1 win while the Togolese accounted for their Ghanaian counterparts with a 3-2 verdict.
Ghana, however, made amends in the third placed match when they defeated TV3 in another thrilling game.
The annual Inter Embassy Peace World Cup organized by the Ghana – Turkey Cooperation and Development Association (TUDEC) was held to strengthen ties between the various nations in Ghana and also promote peaceful co-existence, dialogue and conflict resolution.
It attracted 14 embassies and categorized into four groups – group A consisting of Italy, Gambia and Portugal; group B – Benin, Lebanon and TV3 Ghana; group C – Lybia, India, Tajakistan and Ghana and group D – Turkey, Angola, Togo and China.
The event was graced by former Black Stars skipper, Stephen Appiah, Affail Monney, president of the Ghana Journalists Association, George Frank Asmah, Features Editor of the Ghanaian Times newspaper as well as business owners, educators and legal consultants from the respective countries. Yusuf Temizkan, president of TUDEC congratulated the participants for their high sense of discipline.
